Second Look Value
Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 24, 2026
Second Look Value is a professional vehicle-valuation platform used by licensed appraisal firms and their appraisers to prepare total-loss valuations and diminished-value claims. This policy explains what information the platform collects, how it is used, and the choices available to the firms and individuals who use it.
Second Look Value is a business tool. Most of the claim information entered into the platform is supplied by an appraisal firm in the course of its work. In that context the firm is responsible for the claim data it enters and for its own privacy obligations to the people involved in its claims; Second Look Value processes that data on the firm's behalf to provide the service.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information. Names, work email addresses, firm affiliation, role, and (optionally) an appraiser license number for the professionals who use the platform. Passwords are stored in a securely hashed form — we never store them in plain text.
- Claim and vehicle data. Information appraisers enter or upload to build a valuation — including VIN, mileage, vehicle details, claim numbers, the vehicle owner's or client's name, the insurer's offer, comparable-listing selections, adjustments, and appraiser notes.
- Uploaded documents. Files attached to a claim, such as repair estimates and accident-history documents used for diminished-value work.
- Billing information. Purchases of report credits are processed by our payment provider. We do not receive or store full payment-card numbers.
- Usage and technical data. Standard log information (such as sign-in events and actions taken in the platform) and website analytics used to operate, secure, and improve the service.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide the valuation platform — decoding vehicles, retrieving market comparables, applying adjustments, and generating reports.
- To analyze uploaded repair estimates and extract damage details for diminished-value calculations (see Service Providers below).
- To process credit purchases and maintain firm billing.
- To send transactional messages such as generated reports, account invitations, and system notifications.
- To provide support, secure the platform, prevent misuse, and improve the service.
3. Service Providers We Share Data With
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We share data only with the service providers needed to operate the platform, and only so they can perform their function for us:
- Payment processing — Stripe, to handle credit purchases.
- Vehicle market data — a third-party automotive data provider, to decode VINs and retrieve comparable market listings.
- Document analysis — a third-party AI service that reads uploaded repair estimates to extract damage details for diminished-value claims.
- Email delivery — a transactional email provider, to send reports, invitations, and notifications.
- Hosting and storage — cloud infrastructure and file-storage providers used to run the application and store generated reports and uploaded documents.
- Analytics — website analytics to understand and improve how the site is used.
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Second Look Value, our users, or others.
4. Data Storage and Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and access is controlled by firm and by user role, so appraisers, managers, and firm administrators see only what their role permits. Generated reports and uploaded documents are stored using access-controlled cloud storage. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect the information entrusted to the platform.
5. Data Retention
We retain claim, valuation, and report records for as long as a firm's account is active, and afterward as needed to meet legal, tax, or recordkeeping obligations — appraisal reports in particular are often subject to professional retention requirements. A firm may request deletion of records it controls, subject to those obligations.
6. Firm and Individual Responsibilities
Because appraisers enter information about third parties (for example, a vehicle owner named in a claim), the appraisal firm is responsible for having an appropriate basis to enter that information and for responding to requests from the people in its claims. If you are an individual named in a claim record and want to access or correct your information, please contact the appraisal firm handling your claim. We will assist that firm as its service provider.
7. Your Choices
- Account holders can review and update their account information within the platform.
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of account information by contacting us at the email below.
- You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling analytics cookies will not affect core platform functionality.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify account holders.
